Inzaghi takes ‘great pride’ in Inter’s defensive solidity, lauds outstanding Bisseck after Arsenal victory

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi praised his side’s defense after they shut out Arsenal in the Champions League, to come away with a narrow 1-0 victory at the San Siro in Milan.

Mikel Merino’s handball inside the box was penalized and Hakan Calhanoglu made no mistake from six yards, sealing the win for Inter just before halftime.

This result places Inter fifth in the standings after four games, tying them with three other teams on 10 points. The Nerazzurri also extended their unbeaten Champions League home streak to 11 matches, keeping an impressive 9 shout-outs during this run.

Alongside Atalanta, Inzaghi’s Inter remain one of the only teams yet to concede a goal in the Champions League this season. Their current run of four consecutive clean sheets marks a new club record in the competition.

“We had a great performance, zero goals conceded to Arsenal and Man City. It’s a source of great pride, but now we need to continue like this,” Inzaghi said.

Inter’s Yann Bisseck was one of the most outstanding players on the night as Inzaghi’s men remained defensively resolute all game. The Italian manager was full of praise for the defender, admitting that there was no doubt in his mind about the German’s quality.

“Bisseck was very good, but he doesn’t have to prove anything to me,” Inzaghi said. “I know how good he is, and he has played two great games against teams like City and Arsenal this season.

“His only problem is that we have other great defenders so he cannot play all the time, but I know how good he is.”

Inter cannot afford to waste too much time celebrating their Champions League triumph though. Next up for Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri is another stern test against current Serie A leaders Napoli on Sunday. A win for Inter will see them overtake Napoli at the summit.
