Former Barcelona star Emmanuel Amuneke has praised Nigerian coaches Augustine Eguavoen, Fidelis Ilechukwu, and Daniel Ogunmodede for their commendable work since stepping in as the Super Eagles’ technical team.
The Nigeria Football Federation appointed Eguavoen, with assistance from Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede, on a temporary basis following the unsuccessful search for a permanent head coach after Finidi George’s departure.
Since their takeover, the Super Eagles have garnered nine points in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, including a bonus three points awarded by CAF due to Libya’s forfeiture.
Their leadership has sparked hope among the Nigerian football community as they seek to secure Nigeria’s place in the tournament.
Heartland manager and former Super Eagles coaching candidate, Amuneke, applauded the trio’s contributions, as he emphasise the importance of supporting homegrown talent.
“The coaches have done very well, what we need to do is keep encouraging our own,” Said the Amuneke to Brila. “The mentality we have in Nigeria is people will say, that person does not have experience but nobody was born with experience.”
Amuneke went on to acknowledge the natural learning curve in coaching, stressing that mistakes are a vital part of growth.
“Do your thing; you will make mistakes and learn from them. When you win, learn from it as well,” he added.
With crucial 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda on the horizon, the Super Eagles aim to finish strong and secure their spot in the tournament set for Morocco.
