Report: Barcelona set to seal fresh €1.7 billion jersey deal

Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona are set to complete a bumper €1.7 billion jersey deal with American-based brand Nike.

Barcelona have one of the longest relationships with a sportswear company, as they have been with Nike since the 1998/1999 season. The American company has been part of their most successful era.

But in recent years, the Barcelona board have been looking for ways to optimize their finances due to the rot caused by former club President Josep Bartomeu. Well, the club is set to hit a milestone in their push to improve their finances.

Recall that they have been in talks with Nike over a new deal in recent months. Now, those talks have reached a conclusion.

According to Football Espana, Barcelona are set to announce a €1.7 billion sponsorship with Nike. The deal is set to be the the biggest in football history and will last until 2038. That invariably means that Barcelona will get €121m per year for the next 14 years, pending the next contract renewal.

This development comes at a time that Barcelona have been in flying form. The Blaugrana have won all but one game this season under the tutelage of new German coach Hansi Flick.

They have claimed big scalps against clubs like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and they look like the best European team at the moment.

The Nike deal will open the door for reinforcements next summer or even in the January transfer window. Barcelona have been linked to stars like Viktor Gyokeres and Nico Williams, and the new Nike deal will give them the financial muscle to prosecute one or two of those transfers.
