Juventus manager Thiago Motta spoke to the press ahead of today’s highly anticipated Serie A clash with local rivals Torino.
This latest Derby della Mole arrives during a challenging period for a Juve side coming off the back of a 1-1 draw against Lille in their midweek Champions League match.
The Old Lady have played out draws in four of their last five matches across all competitions, with the exception being a 2-0 victory over Udinese in their last Serie A outing. Juve now sit in 6th place, just four points behind league leaders Napoli.
Motta’s side have conceded eight goals in their last five games and the Italian boss acknowledged the need for improvement. He also revealed that the team’s mood is ‘very good’ despite their recent setbacks.
“Our defense? It’s working very well, but we still have plenty of room for improvement,” Motta said. “This is true in general for all the areas of our team, not just the defense.
“The team’s mood is very good ahead of the Derby della Mole. This is a special match for us and for our fans. Tomorrow, we will do our best to put in a great performance.
“Derbies, in general, are beautiful games to play and here I felt exactly that feeling and, as a result, we will give our all to get a positive result for the fans.
“I feel very privileged because since I started playing professional football I have lived in big cities. Today, it is the same because I coach a great team and I live in a beautiful city like Turin.”
With either one of Inter Milan or Napoli set to drop points this weekend, Motta and his charges will certainly be relishing the opportunity to close the gap at the summit of the Serie A standings.
