Fulham manager Marco Silva recently clarified his choice to keep Alex Iwobi in the starting lineup, despite the goal-scoring surge of Harry Wilson.
Iwobi’s well-rounded performances, Silva explains, have been key to Fulham’s steady form, following their recent 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
While Wilson added a second-half goal after coming on as a substitute, Silva stressed that Iwobi’s influence extends beyond the scoreboard, praising his consistency and leadership since pre-season.
Silva noted that such competition for places only strengthens the squad, with players like Adama Traoré and Reiss Nelson also pushing for more time on the pitch.
“Harry wants to start, of course, but Iwobi’s form is invaluable. Every game, he brings something crucial,” Silva remarked.
Wilson’s sharp impact against Palace, scoring just seconds after coming on, showcases his hunger and skill. Still, Silva emphasised that managing this depth is a “great problem” and contributes to Fulham’s upward momentum.
Looking ahead, Silva and Fulham are focused on sustaining this momentum, with Wolverhampton Wanderers up next after the international break.
