Serie A club side AS Roma have appointed former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Claudio Ranieri as first team technical manager after the dismissal of Ivan Juric.
Juric was dismissed following Giallorossi’s 3-2 home defeat to Bologna on Sunday, a result that left the team sitting in 12th place in Serie A.
Following a run of only four wins in his 12 matches at the helm, Juric became Roma’s second coach to be let go this season, after Daniele De Rossi was sacked in September.
Ranieri, who retired in May, has stepped out of retirement to take over as Roma’s manager until the end of the season.
“Roma is pleased to announce that Claudio Ranieri is the new Technical Manager of the First Team,” Roma said in a statement.
“At the end of the season he will take on a senior managerial role, he will be an advisor to the ownership for all sporting matters of the club.
“The search for a new coach will continue in the coming months and Claudio will also have a say in this decision.”
The 73-year-old whose last role was with Cagliari in Serie A, now returns for a third spell at Roma. In his first stint between 2009 and 2011, he narrowly missed out on a Serie A title.
Over his previous two spells with Roma, the Italian manager oversaw 96 matches across all competitions, securing 53 victories and achieving a win rate of 55.21%.
Ranieri’s coaching career is highlighted by Leicester City’s unexpected Premier League title triumph in 2016 and managing top European clubs such as Chelsea, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Inter, and Monaco.
