Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya believes that the Gunners “will be in the fight” for the Premier League title despite their stuttering start to the season.
After a streak of four winless matches in the league, the north Londoners find themselves nine points behind current leaders Liverpool after 11 round of matches.
Raya emphasized that the Gunners, having been Manchester City’s primary challengers for the title in recent seasons, possess the ability to reclaim their position in the hunt for the championship.
“We have shown last year and this season, although we have not started as we would have liked, especially the last two games due to the circumstances of the matches, with very difficult away games with one man less,” Raya told Mundo Depotivo:
“We must not make excuses and we must move forward. We deserved more against Chelsea and Newcastle, but we will continue in the same vein, correcting errors and looking forward with a very good group that we can do anything.
“We will be in the fight to lift the Premier League.”
Arsenal have come very close to Premier League glory in the last couple of years, especially last season when they kept Pep Guardiola’s City on their toes until the final match day of the season.
This season though, the Gunners will require a significant amount of work to regain that level of consistency.
Following the November international break, they will face Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, and Manchester United in their first three league fixtures.
Meanwhile, in the Champions League, they must bounce back from that disappointing 1-0 loss to Inter Milan, with key clashes against Sporting CP and Monaco on the horizon before the year runs out.
