Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has sent his best wishes to Manchester United following their appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new coach.
Ronaldo has had two stints at Manchester United. The first one was from 2003 to 2009. And he was quite excellent, leading the Red Devils to many titles, including the Premier League and the Champions League.
The 40-year-old forward went on to have stints at Real Madrid and Juventus before returning to Old Trafford in 2021. At the time, it was one of the most celebrated transfers in football history. But the relationship ended on a bad note as Ronaldo was forced out of the team by former coach Erik Ten Hag.
Just before he left, Ronaldo criticized the club management and Ten Hag for the facilities and the coaching style. And that caused a big controversy in the lead up to his transfer to AL Nassr at the start of last year.
Ronaldo has since joined Al Nassr and has become and important member of the club. On Friday, the Portuguese striker scored his 910th career goal in Portugal’s 5-1 demolition of Poland. Ronaldo’s goals haul is currently the highest in modern-day football. And after the game, he was queried on Manchester United’s appointment of Ruben Amorim as coach. Ronaldo simply wished his former club well.
“I wish Man United and Rúben Amorim the best of luck in the world,” Ronaldo said, per Fabrizio Romano.
Amorim has already joined Manchester United and will take charge of his first game after the international break.
