France coach Didier Deschamp has stated that he is not ready to leave his job despite recent calls for his exit.
Deschamps has been France’s coach since 2012, and they have have enjoyed enjoyed lot of success since his appointment. The former Juventus boss led Les Bleus to World Cup glory in 2018 and a second-place finish in 2022. He also finished second at the 2016 Euros and won the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
With him as coach France have looked celestial and unplayable at times. But in the past year, the former World Champions have not inspired much confidence with their play.
In June, they wobbled and stumbled to the final of the UEFA Nations League before losing to a flying Spain side.
Recently, there have been calls for his sack, as there have even been rumors that he has fallen out with some members of the first team. Case in point is Kylian Mbappe, who has not been called up to the national team for the last two international break.
However, Deschamp insists that he is still hungry and wants to remain in charge of the team.
“I have my energy and I have everything to continue to maintain the France national team at the level it has reached, with the expectations that are there. Criticism has always been a part of my life – compliments too,” Deschamps said in a press conference ahead of France’s UEFA Nations League game against Italy.
“That won’t influence what I’ve got to do, what I think about doing to ensure that the France national team performs as well as possible.”
Since the Euros final, France has played five games, and they have lost just once. The French FA have not indicated that they are unsatisfied .
