Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has been shortlisted for the prestigious Serie A player of the season after a stellar 2023/24 season.
The Nigeria international who won Atalanta’s player of the season for a second successive season was an integral part of Gian Piero Giasperini side last season.
He scored an impressive 17 goals and provided a further 10 assists in 45 appearances including a remarkable hatrick in the Europa League final as Atalanta defeated German Champions Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to clinch a first ever European trophy.
The 27-year old who is the overwhelming favorite to win the CAF African player of the year is nominated for the prestigious award alongside AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram who were both instrumental as Nerazzurri won the scudetto.
Other nominees includes Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee whose impressive form helped Bologna secure UEFA Champions League football last season and Alfred Gudmundsson of Fiorentina.
Lookman who was voted 14th in the 2024 ballon d’or has continued his impressive form into the new season with eight goals and five assists in 14 appearances in all competitions.
The ‘Gran Gala del Calcio’ Awards which is held yearly to honour excellent performance in Italian football is scheduled to hold at a ceremony on December 2nd, 2024.
Lookman will be hoping to emulate countryman Victo Osimhen who won the award after leading Napoli to the scudetto in the 2022/23 season.
