Pep Guardiola extends Manchester City contract

Reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City have confirmed that coach Pep Guardiola has signed a fresh two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Guardiola’s future has been in the balance for the past year due to his refusal to pen a contract extension at Manchester City, even with his deal set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The Spanish tactician has built a dynasty at Manchester, helping the club claim 18 trophies. He has won the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup, the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and the Club World Cup in his eight years at the club.

Recall that last week, DC-Sports revealed that Guardiola was set to pen a contract extension at Manchester City. And since then, the story has continued to develop.

Manchester City have now announced the completion of the deal. And instead of the one-year extension that was initially touted, Guardiola has penned a two-year contract extension.

The deal will keep him at Manchester until 2027. And it will be the longest he has coached a club, as it will take him beyond the ten-year mark.

Speaking after the completion of the contract, coach Guardiola expressed excitement and shared his desire for more silverware.

“Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club,” Guardiola said.

“That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons.

“Thank you to everyone for continuing to trust and support me – The Owner, The Chairman Khaldoon, Ferran, Txiki, the players and of course the fans… everyone connected to Manchester City. It has always been an honour, a pleasure and a privilege to be here.

“I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much.

“Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

Manchester City have had a difficult campaign this season. But Guardiola’s renewal could just be the turning point for them.
