Juventus identify Chelsea defender as January transfer target

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has reportedly emerged as a January transfer target for Italian side Juventus.

The ‘forgotten’ defender who has been considered surplus to requirement by Enzo Maresca has rarely featured for the Blues this season and could be given a lifeline out of his predicament by Thiago Motta’s side.

The 27-year old defender joined Chelsea from Leicester city for a fee of about £50 million in the summer of 2020. He cemented his place in the starting lineup under the-then Chelsea coach Frank Lampard and he was an integral part of the Blues side that won the UEFA Champions League in 2021.

Juventus are presently in need for an extra defender after injuries to left-back Juan Cabal and Centre-back Bremer who have both suffered season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injuries and a loan move for Chilwell could be suitable for all parties.

After being frequently suffering from various degrees of injuries, the England international lost his place to Spanish defender Marc Cucurella and summer arrival of versatile defender Renato Veiga.

Enzo Maresca will be happy to release Chilwell who has only played 45 minutes of football in the Carabao cup this season.

He has not been named in any English Premier League or UEFA Conference League match day squad this season and a move to Turin could favor his chances of still representing his country.

Chelsea will be happy to let him go for a loan or a little fee this winter and a move could be on the cards for the left-back.
