Spanish star Lamine Yamal will not travel with Barcelona for their La Liga game against Celta Vigo at the Estadio de Balaidos on Saturday.
Yamal’s fitness situation has been a cause of concern for the past three weeks. Recall that he missed Barcelona’s last game against Real Sociedad just before the international break. The Blaugrana looked quite disjointed without Yamam and eventually lost the game 1-0.
However, despite opting out of Spain’s squad for the international break, the 17-year-old winger is yet to return to full fitness. There are reports that Yamal is currently suffering from an ankle injury, but the club have not revealed much about the issue, neither have they set a return date for him.
On Friday, in the press conference for Barcelona’s game against Celta Vigo, coach Hansi Flick told journalists that Yamal is not fully fit yet, but he refused to state a return date.
“Lamine Yamal will miss the game vs Celta Vigo, we won’t take any risks. He will be back as soon as he feels 100% good and fit,” Flick said.
Following Flick’s statement, Barcelona revealed the players that will travel to Vigo, and Yamal’s name was conspicuously missing.
This season, Yamal has contributed six goals and eight assists in 16 games. He has been one of their best performers. But this current situation will leave many Barcelona fans worried, as they have been many complaints that the 17-year-old is being overworked.
Recall that Ansu Fati used to be one of their top talents, but he broke down due to his heavy workload. Due to his injuries, he has struggled to put in a string of good performances for the past two years. Fans will be hoping that Yamal does not suffer and lose form like Fati.
