Delap: City to rival Chelsea for Ipswich yougster

English Premier League champions Manchester City could challenge Chelsea to the signing of Enlish forward Liam Delap.

Delap has had a number of impressive displays for Ipswich Town since they gained promotion to the Premier League. The 21-year-old striker spent last season on loan at Championship club Hull City, but Ipswich signed him from Manchester City permanently in a deal worth €17.85 million.

Since his transfer, Delap has been impressive for the Premier League new boys despite their struggles. The Englishman has produced six goals and one assist in twelve Premier League appearances.

Due to his performances, Delap has attracted interest from some top clubs in England. The most notable of his admires is Chelsea who have adopted a transfer policy of signing young players with potential.

However, the Blues have not put their feet on the gas just yet, as they have Nicolas Jackson, who has been very impressive this season.

Now, in a new development, per Transfer News Live, Chelsea may face some difficulty in getting their man. This is as Manchester City are also looking for a new striker.

The Cityzens have an advantage as Delap grew up at the club, and they inserted a €20 million buy-back clause when he moved to Ipswich Town. So, all the reigning Premier League champions need is to activate the clause by paying €20 million, and the deal will be sealed.

Nonetheless, Delap may be unwilling to play second-fiddle now that he has tasted first-team football. It is highly unlikely that he will displace Erling Haaland in the Manchester City side.
