Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola had blamed his side’s poor run of results on injuries to his key players.
The past month has been torrid for Spanish tactician Guardiola, as Manchester City have been in rotten form. The defending Premier League champions have lost their last five games in all competitions. They have lost to Tottenham Hotspur twice, Bournemouth, Sporting CP, and Brighton.
These losses have come as Guardiola has lost some important members of his squad. Oscar Bobb suffered a season-ending injury just before the start of the season. Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has been ruled out of the campaign due to an ACL injury. Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish has struggled with his fitness, while Ruben Dias has been struggling with a niggling injury.
Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne has struggled to stay fit over the last three seasons. Due to his injuries, he has struggled to perform at his usually high level.
Following Manchester City’s humiliating 4-0 loss to Tottenham last Sunday, Guardiola was queried on the reason for his side’s recent downtrend. And he blamed it on their recent injury struggles.
“Just give me my players back… you will see!,” Guardiola told Ziggo, per Fabrizio Romano.
“It’s difficult when you have to play without 4 central defenders, 2 holding midfielders, the best player in the world Rodri out, 3 wingers out, just give me my players back… you’ll see Man City!”.
Manchester City’s next game is against Dutch side Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League. The Cityzens will be looking to claim a comfortable win and return to winning ways.
