Tottenham Hotspur dealt injury blow as goalkeeper faces months on sideline

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is expected to be sidelined for months after undergoing surgery on a fractured ankle in the aftermath of Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Manchester City in the English Premier League.

The Italian goalkeeper was injured in a collision with Manchester City winger Savinho in the first half. He underwent treatment after the collision before he was seen limping as he made his way to the pitch for the second half.

In a statement released by Tottenham Hotspur, Vicario was confirmed to have undergone surgery on his right ankle which was fractured in the memorable win.

A timeframe was not released for his return but it was noted that he would miss a considerable amount of time out of action.

The 28-year old shot-stopper signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 from Empoli to replace former France international Hugo Lloris.

Since his arrival in North London, the Italian has not missed a single minute of Premier League action as he has been an ever present and reliable goalkeeper.

He played all 38 league games last season and has appeared in all 12 League games this season including keeping a clean sheet in the win over the Champions.

Tottenham Hotspur are next in action when they face AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday and are expected to call on 36-year old Fraser Forster who has been on the bench majorly this season as his replacement.

The Italian injury is a big blow to his side as they face a busy period with about ten games to be played from now till the end of the year.
