Kompany hails impressive display as Bayern claim much-needed win over PSG

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has hailed his side’s performance following their impressive 2-0 win over 10-man Paris Saint Germain on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League.

In a game in which both sides needed to win to boost their chances of securing qualification for the knockout stages, South Korea defender Kim Min-Jae’s first half goal was however enough to secure maximum points for the German side.

“I’m obviously happy. Our pressing in the first half was very good. The discipline was there. We could have scored perhaps one or two more goals, but the result is good”, said Kompany.

The victory was their third of the season in the Champions League moving them up to 11th on the table while their opponents who had French forward Ousmane Dembele sent off for a second bookable offence dropped out of the qualification spots to 26th.

“I’m not looking at the table because I don’t understand it yet to be honest. Hopefully it will look good when we win a few more games. We just want to win all our remaining games, then we’d have a good chance to finish in the top eight.”

PSG started the game without a recognized striker and Kompany said in his post-match conference that his side had been prepared for any tactical tweak by their opponent.

“This tactical trick didn’t surprise me. Paris had already played without a real striker in recent games,” he added.

Kompany’s side travel to Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk on December 10 and will look to secure victory in a bid to boost their chances of qualifying for the next round.
