Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has asserted that his side’s preformance against Liverpool was not good enough for them to win the game.
Real Madrid traveled to Anfield to take on Liverpool in their fifth game of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Recall that Real Madrid had gotten the better of Liverpool in their recent meetings. However, Liverpool have been in top form recently, and that made them slight favourites. Also, Los Blancos were without some important players like Vinicius Jnr, Rodrygo, and Dani Carvajal.
Liverpool dominated the first half and got most of the big chances. Real Madrid, on the other hand, saw less of the ball and failed to do much in the final third, as it was obvious that they were missing Vinicius Jnr.
The first half ended goalless. But in the second half, Liverpool stepped it up. And they scored twice, courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo. It could have been three, but Mohammed Salah missed his penalty. Kylian Mbappe also missed a penalty in the 61st minute.
After the game, Bellingham expressed dissatisfaction with his side’s result, and he believes he and his teammates did not do enough to get the win.
“Liverpool were just better than us. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up. They dominated large spells of the game. The opportunities we had we weren’t clinical enough,” Bellingham said.
Following their loss, Real Madrid now sit 24th in the league standings, nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
