Belgian Pro League giants Club Brugge are reportedly targeting Southampton forward Paul Onuachu as they look to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Nigerian striker, who previously enjoyed a prolific spell at KRC Genk, is seen as an ideal fit for Brugge’s system, according to reports from Belgian media outlet Voetbalkrant.
Onuachu’s time in England has been far from smooth, as the 30-year-old struggled to secure regular playing time since joining Southampton in January 2023.
Despite this, his exceptional record at Genk — 85 goals in 134 appearances — continues to attract suitors. Brugge are now keen to bring the towering forward back to Belgium on a permanent deal.
The Nigerian international spent the last season on loan at Trabzonspor in Turkey, where he contributed to the team but faced challenges in making his move permanent. With Southampton open to restructuring their squad, Onuachu’s exit seems increasingly likely when the transfer window reopens.
This potential move comes as Brugge aim to stay competitive in domestic and European competitions. A return to familiar territory could provide Onuachu the platform to rediscover his goal-scoring touch and cement his reputation as one of Africa’s top strikers.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles star will hope the switch revitalises his international career as well, with Nigeria preparing for crucial tournaments in 2025.
