Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has lauded winger Jadon Sancho after his brilliant performance in the 2-0 win over German side Heidenheim in the UEFA Conference League.
The 24-year old made his first start for the Blues since October and was instrumental in the victory as he provided the assists for both goals as Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk scored to cap an impressive outing.
“I said since we start, Jadon is very important for us. He has to be fit, mentally and physically, and he is going to help us a lot.
“Unfortunately, we did not use him in the last few games but he is showing tonight how important he is”, Maresca said.
Chelsea’s win moved them up to four from four games in Europe after previous wins over Gent, Panathinaikos and NOAH. They are just a win from securing a place in the Round of 16.
The Blues have scored 18 goals and have conceded only three times. They sit comfortably at the top of the standings with Poland side Legia Warszawa the only side to have picked maximum points.
“Especially against the teams that defend in the low block, we need that quality in the last third. Sometimes he will shoot more but I think he is going to help us a lot”, he added.
Sancho will hope to start once more when Chelsea are back in action in the English Premier League when they play host to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Sunday December 1st.
