Dutch midfielder Patrick Kluivert became the first-ever player to score a hat-trick of penalty-kicks in a single Premier League game in Bournemouth’s 4-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux.
Bournemouth returned to Premier League action with a fixture against Wolves at the Molineux Stadium. Bournemouth have had a decent start to the campaign so far, picking 15 points from their first 13 games.
Wolves, on the other hand, have been battling for their lives in the Premier League, with just nine points from their first 13 games.
Both teams landed running, as Evanilson won a penalty after just two minutes. Kluivert made no mistake from close range, as he scored from the spot to give his side the lead after just three minutes.
However, Jorgen Strand Larsen scored the equalizer for Wolves just two minutes later off an assist from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
The Cherries responded swiftly, with Milos Kerkez scoring in the eighth minute to make it 2-1. Then, ten minutes later, Evanilson won a foul in the box. Kluivert took charge of the situation and converted the opportunity to a goal.
Larsen scored again in the 69th minute, but Kluivert scored again from another penalty that was won by Evanilson. The Dutchman completed his hattrick, and that was just enough to seal the 4-2 win for Bournemouth, taking them up to 18 points in the Premier League this season.
According to statistics from OptaJoe, Kluivert’s hattrick of penalties ensured that he becomes the first-ever player to score three penalties in a single Premier League game.
