Former English Premier champions Chelsea will be without French defender Wesley Fofana, after he sustained an injury in their 3-0 win over Aston Villa.
Since his €80 million transfer from Leicester City in 2022, Fofana has spent most of his time at Chelsea on the treatment table. Last season, he did not make any appearance for the club, as he was dealing with a cruciate ligament tear.
However, he returned to action during pre-season, and he has been an important member of the team. The 23-year-old defender has registered 12 appearances for the Blues this season.
Fofana was on the starting lineup for Chelsea when they welcomed Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge for their Week 13 Premier League fixture. The former Leicester City man put in a solid showing, but he had to be taken off in the 60th minute after he appeared to have injured himself.
Coach Enzo Maresca introduced Benoit Badiashile in his stead, and Chelsea did just enough to get a handsome 3-0 win.
After the game, Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca spoke about Fofana’s injury, and he revealed that Fofana sustained a hamstring injury and will be out for at least four weeks.
This automatically means that the France international will not play football again until January 2025.
Nonetheless, Chelsea still have adequate cover at the back, as Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo are fit and available to play. The Blues are currently having an impressive campaign under the tutelage of Maresca. They sit third, nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
