Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has ruled out Manchester City from the title race after they were beaten 2-0 by League leaders Liverpool on Sunday evening.
Goals by Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah secured three points for the Reds as they moved eleven points clear of Manchester City and nine points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
“I don’t see there’s any way back for Manchester City now”, Carragher said.
“Sometimes you need to lose so people realise what you’ve done so you don’t take it for granted. And maybe he’s sending a message to the hierarchy, the people above him and the fans.”
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side have now lost four consecutive matches in the English Premier League and have failed to win any of their last seven matches in all competitions.
“This season Manchester City will not win the Premier League. It’s a mini-crisis for Manchester City. I think it’s reminiscent of Liverpool two years ago.
I actually think they might have a fight on their hands for the top four”, he added.
The Cityzens who are looking to win an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title have dropped to fifth on the table below Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
“I look at Arsenal, Chelsea and the way they are looking right now and I think it will be difficult for Man City to finish above them if they don’t go into the market in January.
I don’t think Pep can fix City’s midfield now. He needs to buy players there. If he can do it in January, who knows, but he may need to wait to the end of the season”, he continued.
Manchester City have the chance to end their losing streak when they host Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.
