Manchester United suffer Bruno Fernandes injury headache ahead of Emirates trip

Manchester United are currently sweating over the fitness of their skipper Bruno Fernandes, who was spotted with an ice pack on his ankle during Sunday’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils travel to the Emirates on Wednesday, December 4, to take on title hopefuls Arsenal in what is set to be new manager Ruben Amorim’s biggest test yet since his arrival at the north of England.

Fernandes was instrumental in Sunday’s win, providing assists for United’s first two goals, while Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee each scored twice to seal Amorim’s first Premier League victory.

However, Manchester United face a potential setback after the Portuguese midfielder limped off the pitch wearing only one boot shortly after the final whistle.

This development adds to United’s challenges, with Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez already ruled out of the Arsenal match due to one-match suspensions for yellow card accumulation.

Fernandes has missed just three games for United since his arrival in 2020, with the 30-year-old also returning to top form recently.

In his last eight appearances for club and country, the Portuguese maestro has registered 5 goals and 4 assists.

Amorim has emphasized Fernandes’ importance to the team, hinting at a potential future role in a deeper midfield position.

On Sunday, however, he operated in a more advanced role alongside Rashford, supporting Zirkzee, while Mainoo and Casemiro controlled the central midfield.

Alongside the United skipper, another standout performer since Amorim’s arrival has been Amad Diallo, who delivered two assists from his newly-assigned right-wing-back position.
