Report: Liverpool identify €60 million-rated star as Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Former English Premier League champions Liverpool have identified Dutch defender Jeremie  Frimpong as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool are set to undergo some changes in the coming months, as some of their players are above 30, while others are at the end of their contracts.

One of such players is Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 26-year-old defender’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but he has refused to sign a contract extension.

The Liverpool star has been with the club for nine years, as he started his career from their academy. However, he seems to have his sights set on a new challenge, as he has been heavily linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

With Alexander-Arnold’s exit almost sure, the Reds have started looking at other right-backs to fill that position.

According to Transfermarkt, Liverpool have highlighted Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong as an option.

The Dutchman has been impressive for Die Werkself since last season and played an integral role in their Bundesliga triumph last season.

Bayer Leverkusen value the 23-year-old defender at €60 million, and that is a decent fee for Liverpool, especially as they did not spend big last summer.

Unlike Alexander-Arnold who has a great passing range, Frimpong has a different profile. The Netherlands international is very quick and likes to bump up the right flank.

He is also slightly better than Alexander-Arnold defensively, who struggles in one-on-one situations. Nonetheless, Liverpool have a penchant for discovering stars for the unlikliest of places, so they could opt for a cheaper player.
