Kelechi Iheanacho’s underwhelming spell at Sevilla could pave the way for a swift return to English football, as Championship sides West Bromwich Albion and Watford reportedly eye a loan move for the Nigerian forward in the January transfer window.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla on a free transfer during the summer transfer window after parting ways with Leicester City, but his time with the La Liga outfit has been far from ideal.
The 28-year-old has yet to score in seven league appearances for the La Liga club, leaving him sidelined in manager García Pimienta’s plans for crucial matches.
Despite his struggles in La Liga, Iheanacho offered a glimpse of his quality by netting twice in Sevilla’s 3-0 Copa del Rey victory over Las Rozas in November.
Pimienta has praised the Nigerian’s work ethic in training but admitted the team’s current dynamics have limited Iheanacho’s opportunities.
“He’s training very well, but Isaac is performing at a high level. Tomorrow, he will have his chance, and I believe he’s capable of delivering for us,” Pimienta said ahead of Sevilla’s upcoming Copa del Rey clash against Olot.
However, interest from England indicates that clubs are still convinced of Iheanacho’s potential to deliver in the Championship. According to El Sevillista, both West Brom and Watford are monitoring the striker’s situation closely, with both clubs in need of a proven forward to boost their promotion hopes.
With the January window fast approaching, Iheanacho could use Sevilla’s Copa del Rey fixtures to rediscover his form and convince potential suitors.
