Unai Emery impressed with ‘confidence-boosting’ win as Aston villa down Brentford

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has expressed satisfaction following his side’s convincing 3-1 victory over Brentford in the English Premier League.

The victory was a first in eight games with their last victory coming in a 2-0 win over Italian side Bologna in the UEFA Champions League in October.

Aston Villa raced into a 3-0 lead in the first half courtesy of a stunner by Morgan Rogers, an Ollie Watkins penalty and a brilliant volley by Matty Cash.

They dominated the second half but failed to add to their tally and conceded a goal by Mikkel Damsgaard which reduced the deficit for the Bees.

“We broke a spell of bad results we were having”, the Villa boss said.

“We started the first five or 10 minutes not in control of the game but then progressively we controlled.”

The 53-year old Spanish coach sees the win as a confidence booster ahead of what is expected to be a busy December period.

“Today we achieved those three points and it has given us confidence again but even like that it’s not enough. We have to keep going and think about the next match against Southampton on Saturday.

The message was try to focus on each match, try to forget the table. How we can recover confidence and feel comfortable at home. Today was a fantastic match”, he added.

Aston Villa will host bottom-placed Southampton this weekend in the English Premier League and will look to build on their midweek victory as they seek a second consecutive win.
