Iraola lauds Bournemouth’s gritty defence after edging past Tottenham Hotspur

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola has expressed satisfaction with his team’s display following a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspurs on Thursday night.

Dean Huijsen’s first half header from a corner secured maximum points for the Cherries who also saw Ryan Christie hit the frame of the woodwork and had two other goals disallowed for offside by VAR.

Huijsen’s goal saw him become the youngest ever goalscorer for Bournemouth in the English Premier League at 19 years and 235 days.

“We hit the post and I was thinking it’s going to be another of these ones, but it hasn’t.

I think it has been a very good win. I think I liked especially the second half. First half, I think we were playing decently”, Iraola said.

The 42-year old manager was delighted as his side were able to shut down a Spurs attack who had former player Dominic Solanke leading their attack.

“I think we’ve been good, especially considering the opposition because it’s a team that scores goals for fun. They don’t need to be very good to score”, he continued.

“I think we’ve been very focused. Not only the keeper or the defenders; all the team, quite disciplined.”

Bournemouth had twenty-one shots on goal in the game which was their most in any game this season and Iraola was pleased with his team as they moved up above Spurs to ninth on the table.

“We had to be a little bit more disciplined, taking care of the small details. And I think we’ve done it.”

Bournemouth will look to build on the massive victory when they travel to relegation-threatened Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.
