Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has acknowledged receiving “direct feedback” from frustrated fans during a tense exchange following Thursday’s narrow loss to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The defeat, sealed by Dean Huijsen’s 17th-minute goal, dropped Spurs to tenth in the Premier League table. Bournemouth dominated for large parts of the game, but failed to make more of their 21 shots on goal.
After the match, Postecoglou faced a chorus of boos from a large number of supporters, some of whom confronted him directly on the sidelines. One fan mockingly referred to him as “Poste-no-clue,” prompting a brief response from the manager before security intervened and escorted him away.
“I didn’t like what was being said because I’m a human being but you’ve got to cop it,” Postecoglou said of the incident. “I’ve been around long enough to know that when things don’t go well you’ve got to understand the frustration and the disappointment.
“They’re rightly disappointed tonight because we’ve let a game of football get away from us. I’m OK with all that. They gave me some direct feedback, which I guess is taken onboard. All I can say is, I’m really disappointed with tonight and I’m determined to get it right and I will keep fighting until we do.”
Pressed further on what was said to him, the Australian responded: “Probably not for here, mate.”
Next up for Postecoglou’s Spurs is a home tie against Enzo Maresca’s high-flying Chelsea on Sunday, December 8. It promises to be an intriguing game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the north Londoners will certainly be relishing the opportunity to return to winning ways against their city rivals.
