Bundesliga side Werder Bremen are reportedly considering a move for Ajax striker Chuba Akpom during the January transfer window.
According to reports from Sport, the German club are keen on securing the services of the Nigerian-born forward on a loan deal, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
Akpom, 29, has found playing time hard to come by since his summer switch from Middlesbrough to Ajax. Despite showcasing his talents in the Sky Bet Championship, where he earned widespread acclaim, he has struggled to replicate that form in Amsterdam.
Although Akpom has managed 21 goals in 58 appearances for Ajax, his limited opportunities this season have reportedly led the Dutch giants to consider offers for the striker. Werder Bremen are said to view Akpom as a valuable addition to bolster their attacking options as they aim to climb the Bundesliga standings.
The Green and Whites are prepared to negotiate a deal that could suit both parties, with Ajax open to a potential exit for the forward if the terms are favourable. The coming weeks will determine whether Bremen’s pursuit materialises into a concrete agreement.
Akpom earlier declared his intention to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in 2019. Since then, the Nigerian Football Federation have not been able to hand him a call up.
