Leicester City manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy has praised captain Jamie Vardy after his brilliant performance in the 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
The 37-year old former England international scored a goal and provided the assist for the equalizer as the Foxes sealed a comeback draw against the Seagulls.
“If you are on the scoresheet and make an assist, then you have to say this result would not be possible without him”, Van Nistelrooy said after the match.
“It’s also the performance of the whole team, of course, that puts him in position. I enjoyed the whole sequence leading up to the goal and that’s why, we as a team, we put him in a position there.”
Goals from Tariq Lamptey and Yakubu Minteh put Brighton on the way to victory before late strikes from Jamie Vardy and Bobby De Cordova-Reid ensured that the Foxes finished the match with a point.
“To have the awareness to play the pass to Bobby, pretty good skill, that was a brilliant moment, because so late in the game, 90th minute, on the top of my head”, he added.
“And when you have the calmness and the composure to decide on these things, then that’s absolute top class. We’re happy that we have that. If you don’t pass it, you have to score. I think he made sure that we were going to get that goal.”
Jamie Vardy has scored twice in two games under the Dutch coach and his latest strike was his 142nd in his English Premier League career.
The Foxes will need him to continue his remarkable scoring feat as they look to move out of the Premier League relegation zone.
