Real Madrid forward ‘knows what to do’ to win Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid’s star forward Kylian Mbappe has set his sights on winning the Ballon d’Or at some point in his career, insisting that he ‘knows what to do’ to land the prestigious individual award.

The 25-year-old attacker has scored nine goals in his first 15 LaLiga matches. However, his Champions League campaign has been less prolific, with just one goal in the opening five games of Los Blancos’ title defense.

The Champions League remains the one major trophy that has eluded Mbappe, despite coming close in the 2019/2020 season when he helped Paris Saint-Germain reach the final, only to fall short against Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Canal+, a confident Mbappe said that he is at the “best club” to conquer Europe’s top competition and has set his sights on achieving several other notable milestones.

“Which top trophy is left for me? The Champions League, that’s why I’m at the best club.

“And the Euros, and why not make it to the Olympics one day? Individual trophies count, too, like the Ballon d’Or. I know what I have to do to win it, a lot of things on and off the field. When I do everything I need to do to win it, I will win it.”

Mbappe also commented on his recent exclusions from Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the Nations League campaign.

“My love for the French team hasn’t changed,” Mbappe insisted. “Yes, I miss it, because it’s been a long time since I’ve been there.

“In September, I asked the coach not to go. I had just arrived in Madrid. I had had a super short vacation. The coach insisted that I come, it didn’t go very well. But it’s still the French team.

“After that, in October, I was injured. I wasn’t in those discussions, they were talking between staffs. The coach told me it was better that he didn’t take me.

“Then, there was November. But I can’t say. It’s the coach’s decision, I stand behind him. I respect his decision. He’s the boss. I wanted to go, but I can’t say why I wasn’t called up.”
