Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus has been told he is ‘not for sale’ by Arsenal amidst transfer links to his native country.
Jesus has had playing time hard to come by with German forward Kai Havertz preferred as the club’s number 9. The 27-year old is having yet another disappointing season in which he has struggled with injuries and fitness.
Ahead of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League clash with French side AS Monaco on Wednesday, Head coach Mikel Arteta was asked transfer questions about the struggling forward and he said, “No, nonsense.”
“Like all strikers, they go through phases and moments. It’s true that that gap has become quite big but there are a lot of things that happened there. Injuries and not starting games that much.”
The former Manchester City attacker was signed from the Premier League Champions in the summer of 2022 but has scored just 20 goals in 87 appearances for the Gunners despite arriving with much promise.
Gabriel Jesus’ only goal of the season so far came in the EFL Carabao cup in a 3-0 win over Preston in the fourth round. He has made eighteen appearances in all competitions with majority coming as a substitute. In the English Premier League, he has started just twice all season failing to score in any of his appearances.
Despite links to other strikers in the transfer market, the Spaniard coach has dismissed rumors concerning any transfer for the Brazilian insisting he is a key member of the squad.
“His attitude has been really good. It always is. We’re going to support him as much as possible”, Arteta continued.
