Newcastle United injury woes continue as forward suffers fresh setback

Newcastle United have been dealt a new injury blow as England international Callum Wilson has suffered a fresh injury.

The 32-year old who had recently just returned from a four-month injury layoff has been reported to have suffered a hamstring injury which will keep him out of action for about two months.

Wilson is a hugely popular and important player in Eddie Howe’s squad and his recent injury is a big blow to the Magpies during a hectic period in which they will play over eleven games during his time out of action.

The England striker had only made four substitute appearances this season since returning from a combination of both a hamstring and back injury which had previously kept him out of action for four months. He missed fifteen matches for his club during the period he was sidelined.

His latest appearance was coming on as a 73rd minute substitute for Sean Longstaff in Saturday’s 4-2 loss at Brentford in the English Premier League.

Wilson’s Newcastle career has been blighted by various injuries which has seen him miss quite a number of matches. In the 2023/24 season, he missed a total of twenty eight matches in all competitions with a combination of illness, hamstring, calf and chest injury.

The Striker who has scored 47 goals in 99 appearances since joining the Magpies in 2020 had previously been the club’s first choice striker but has been playing backup to Sweden International Alexander Isak who arrived from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a club record fee due to his injury record.

It remains to be seen if Eddie Howe goes into the market in the January transfer window in search of a new backup striker due to Wilson’s latest setback.
