England international Anthony Gordon has dismissed news regarding his exit from Newcastle United as false and has affirmed his intention of winning silverware at the club.
Gordon was linked with a move away from the Magpies in the summer with Premier League leaders, Liverpool the front runners for his signature.
However a move failed to materialize as he was a key member of the squad and was deemed untouchable in the transfer market.
“I’m only 23,” Gordon said. “All I’ve heard, like, is ‘When he is leaving?’ Who said I was ever going to leave?
“I’m very, very happy here, I love this place, I love playing football here and I think probably Bruno and Alex think the same thing.”
The 23-year old who was previously linked to London giants Chelsea, joined Newcastle United from Everton in January 2023 and has scored fifteen times in 65 matches for the club. This season, he has scored three times in seventeen appearances in all competitions.
“If we can win a trophy for this club, it would mean the absolute world. Obviously, the league means so much to us because all of our players want to play in Europe, we want to play at that elite level.
“But for me, since I joined – and it will probably always be until it happens – the main priority for me is to win a trophy”, he added.
The winger who netted his first international goal in England’s 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in November has stated his objective of winning trophies under manager Eddie Howe.
“Everybody (in the squad) is in the same boat”, he continued. “But I just want to play football especially for Newcastle.”
Gordon and Newcastle United will be in action in the English Premier League on Saturday against Leicester City hoping to bounce back from last weekend’s loss at Brentford.
