Kazeem Olaigbe’s wonder goal nominated for UEFA Goal of the Week as Nigeria stays silent

Cercle Brugge forward Kazeem Olaigbe has earned a nomination for the UEFA Europa Conference League Goal of the Week after his stunning strike in the 3-1 victory over Olimpija Ljubljana on Thursday night.

Olaigbe’s second goal of the match, a brilliant effort from outside the box after gliding past two defenders, has caught the attention of UEFA, awarding him the Goal of the Week.

The 21-year-old’s impressive display, which also included another goal and an assist, brings his tally in the competition to four goals this season.

However, while his stock continues to rise in European football, Olaigbe remains outside Nigeria’s radar.

Earlier speaking to RTBF via Voetbal Belgie in 2023, the Belgian-born forward reiterated his international allegiance to Belgium: “My parents are Nigerians. But I was born here, so I feel more Belgian and I see my future with the Devils. In any case, I am not aware of any interest from Nigeria.”

Despite his Nigerian roots, Olaigbe’s focus remains on his career in Belgium, where he continues to thrive and attract attention with his performances. With this latest Goal of the Week nomination, the 21-year-old’s future appears firmly tied to the Belgian Red Devils as Nigeria’s silence persists.
