Newly appointed England head coach Thomas Tuchel has expressed confidence in the Three Lions squad and believes they have all it takes to go far in any major tournament.
The German was appointed in October to succeed former manager Gareth Southgate who left his role after a 2-1 loss to eventual champions Spain in the Euro 2024 final to mark a second successive loss at the European Championships.
“Of course, (the reaction) will always be mixed,” Tuchel said. “So now I have to prove myself and to the people who are maybe a bit concerned – to prove to them how much it means for me and that it’s a dream job for me that I will give everything. And that I’m the man for the job.”
The 51-year old will begin his tenure on the 1st of January, 2025 and will be tasked with ending the country’s drought at Major tournaments.
England are yet to taste victory since their 4-2 triumph over West Germany in the 1966 World cup final.
The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager was at the recently concluded qualifying draws for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has set his target at securing automatic qualification for the showpiece event to be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“Hopefully adventurous. Hopefully we will play attacking football and we will make the players shine. So this is it and it should be exciting to watch the group, that you feel the group and the excitement in the group. And we will try for that”, he continued.
Thomas Tuchel first game in charge will be at Wembley against Albania in a World cup qualifying match on the 21st of March 2025 before playing Latvia again at Wembley three days later.
