‘He needs a fresh start’- Troy Deeney urges Manchester City star to move on

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney has advised Manchester City forward Jack Grealish to leave the club in a bid to revive his career.

The 29-year old was a second half substitute in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the English Premier League and has started just five games in the league this season with Jeremy Doku and Savinho preferred over him.

“I think he is danger of having his legacy ruined”, Deeney advised.

“And what I mean by that is, I don’t think you can say he hasn’t lived up to his potential, because look at what he did at Villa and he did it for a sustained period of time.”

The former Aston Villa player joined the Cityzens in 2021 after his £100 million release clause was activated but has failed to replicate the form that made Pep Guardiola splash the huge amount on him.

His last goal for the Premier League Champions was on the 16th of December, 2023 and his lack of form was a major reason he was left out of England Euro 2024 squad by former manager Gareth Southgate and Deeney believes leaving the Cityzens will be crucial for the England international.

“What’s happening now is, in football, it’s, ‘What have you done lately?,’ and he hasn’t done a great deal lately due to injuries and being out of the team.

I think a fresh start would be great for him and somewhere where he’s the main man again and everyone is giving him the ball”, he added.

Grealish will have a chance to put an end to his goal drought when Manchester City travel to the Villa Park to face former club, Aston Villa in the English Premier League early kickoff next Saturday.
