Newcastle United are reportedly interested in bringing Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen back to England.
The Denmark Center-back has featured just once for Hansi Flick’s side this season due to injury and is open to a move away from the Blaugrana with the Magpies said to be interested.
The former Chelsea defender moved to Spain in the summer of 2022 after his contract expired at the Blues and has been unable to fully stake a place in the heart of the Spanish giants defence with the likes of Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo and 17-year old Pau Cubarsi ahead of him in the pecking order.
He spent ten years at the London club featuring 93 times and was part of the Blues team that won the 2019 Europa League and the 2021 UEFA Champions League.
The 26-year old hasn’t featured since August after undergoing surgery on a ligament injury that has kept him out of action since the opening game of the season and will sideline him until 2025.
Barcelona will be open to selling Christensen due to financial constraints as a transfer fee for the defender could help free up space on the wage bill to make new signings and also register Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo who becomes a free agent if his registration is not sorted in January.
Eddie Howe is reportedly keen in bringing the defender to the Magpies after injuries to several of their key defenders with Sven Botman and Kieran Trippier still facing time on the sidelines.
His experience and calmness on the ball could be key to the Magpies setup as they look to strengthen a defence that has faltered in the absence of key stalwarts.
