Former English Premier League Champions, Chelsea are reportedly interested in a move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
The 21-year old has been subject of interest from the Blues in recent weeks following his impressive performances for the Tractor Boys which has seen him notch six league goals this season.
After missing out on summer transfer target Victor Osimhen, Jhon Duran and Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion and with Christopher Nkunku looking to push for a move away from Enzo Maresca’s side due to lack of playing time, they could look to bolster their ranks with the signing of the England U-21 striker who can provide a suitable backup to first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson.
Liam Delap who is the son of former Stoke city midfielder Rory Delap was a product of the Manchester City academy and was previously coached by Italian coach Enzo Maresca who is currently at Chelsea.
He was prolific at youth levels at the Cityzens but failed to break into the first team with Norwegian striker Erling Haaland the main man at the Etihad stadium.
He left in the summer after making just two senior appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side before making the switch to Ipswich Town although Manchester City have a buy-back clause inserted in his contract.
The young striker could now follow the footsteps of former City graduates Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Jadon Sancho who now ply their trades for the London-based club.
His pace, technique, finishing ability and brilliant hold-up play is an essential reason why he is wanted by his former manager and he would help bring another dimension to the Blues attack when looking to break down difficult defenses.
Only time will tell if Delap makes the switch to London to become the latest Manchester City graduate to become a star at the Blues.
