Chelsea attacker Mykhalo Mudryk could be banned from football for up to four years after he allegedly failed a doping test.
Mudryk seems to be finding his feet at Chelsea after struggling in previous seasons. The Ukrainian forward has registered three goals and five assists in 15 appearances for the Blues.
He has not played much in the Premier League this season, as he has gotten most of his appearances in the UEFA Conference League.
However, his last game in the competition was against Heidenheim in late November. He was included in the matchday squad for the game against Aston Villa, but he has not made the matchday squad in the Blues’ last four games.
But in a recent development, the 23-year-old has now been reported to have failed a doping test. If further tests are carried out and he is confirmed to have failed, Mudryk could be banned from football for up to four year.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have released a statement on the issue. They have affirmed the situation, but they did not back Mudryk. Rather, they indicated their readiness to work with the English FA to get to the root of the matter.
“Both the Club and Mykhailo fully support The FA’s testing programme and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested,” Chelsea stated.
“Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances. Both Mykhailo and the Club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding.”
Mudryk still has a contract with Chelsea until 2031. So even if he is given a ban, he could still play for Chelsea. The Blues will hope that the issue will be sorted soon.
