Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru showed remarkable composure after a car accident on Saturday evening near Bracciano, Italy, as he featured for Lazio just two days later in their 6-0 thrashing by Inter Milan in Serie A.
The 23-year-old, who joined Lazio this season, was driving his Lamborghini in a high-traffic area when the accident occurred. Fortunately, he emerged unharmed despite the vehicle sustaining significant damage.
Local authorities swiftly arrived at the scene and carried out investigations, while Dele-Bashiru called teammate Noslin for assistance. The Dutch forward came to the rescue, taking the midfielder home shortly after the incident.
Despite the ordeal, Dele-Bashiru wasted no time returning to training on Sunday morning, impressing Lazio’s coaching staff with his resilience. His readiness earned him a spot on the bench for the Monday night fixture against Inter.
Dele-Bashiru entered the match in the 57th minute as a replacement for Pedro, but his efforts could not prevent Lazio from succumbing to a humiliating defeat against the reigning champions.
The incident, initially unreported, came to light through Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport and Radiosei, with details later circulating on social media.
Dele-Bashiru’s professionalism and quick recovery from the scare have drawn praise from the football fans, but questions remain about the player’s state of mind following the accident.
With the Biancocelesti struggling for form, the Nigerian’s ability to focus and deliver in tough circumstances will be crucial in the coming weeks.
