Super Falcons named National Team of the Year at 2024 CAF Awards as Gusau dedicates award to Tinubu

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been crowned the National Team of the Year at the 2024 CAF Awards, cementing their status as Africa’s leading women’s football team.

The nine-time African champions edged out the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco and Banyana Banyana of South Africa to claim the prestigious award.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, received the award on behalf of the team.

In his remarks, Gusau praises the President Ahmed Tinubu’s wife, emphasised Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football while sending a message to rivals.

“I must say I’m happy to stand here again. Last year, I was here to receive the same awards. That shows the commitment and hard work we are putting to ensure we maintain the standard of women football. I just want to call on those that are marching hard to catch Nigerian on women football you should work hard because we are not sleeping. We would continue to work hard, and this award is dedicated to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who have been supporting women football in Nigeria hardly.” He said.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Chiamaka Okwuchukwu missed out on the Women’s Young Player of the Year award. The honour went to Morocco’s Doha El Madani.
