Atletico Madrid considering January move for Manchester United forward

Former UEFA Champions League finalist, Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in making a bid for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho in the January transfer window.

Rumors of a move away from the Red Devils was fueled after the young Argentine forward was dropped from the Matchday squad by Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim for Manchester United’s biggest game of the season against Premier League Champions, Manchester City.

Amorim said the decision to drop the youngster alongside England international Marcus Rashford, was not a disciplinary issue neither was it injury-related, but explained that it was due to the performances of the players.

The 20-year old who was previously on the ranks of the Spanish giants, joined Manchester United youth team in 2020. He made his first-team debut under former manager Ralf Rangnick in 2022.

The Argentina Copa America winner has made over 100 appearances for the Red Devils and has scored 23 goals while providing a further 13 assists.

This season, he has eight goals and four assists in 24 games in all competitions including a four-goal contribution outing in Manchester United’s 7-0 demolition of Barnsley in the EFL cup third round in September.

He was recently announced as the winner of the 2024 Puskas award for his stunning bicycle kick goal in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Everton in November 2023 at the Goodison Park.

Known for his pace and trickery down the wings, Garnacho could fit in perfectly into Diego Simeone’s Atletico side and his recent omission by the new Manchester United head coach have put the former Laliga champions on high alert as they look to boost their squad and the young forward could be on his way out of Old Trafford in January if the right price is agreed.
