Alejandro Garnacho’s reaction to his Manchester derby omission revealed

Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho seemed ‘a little upset’ after being left out of the squad that enjoyed Sunday’s nerve-wracking Manchester derby victory at the Etihad Stadium, Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has revealed.

The 20-year-old Argentine, who recently won the FIFA Puskas Award for his stunning bicycle-kick against Everton last season, is back in contention to feature for United when they rock up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Carabao Cup tie against the Lilly Whites.

Speaking about Garnacho’s reaction to missing out on the derby, Amorim admitted to being impressed by the young winger’s “really good” response.

“Really good. Trained really well,” Amorim said. “He seems a little bit upset with me and that is perfect.

“I was really, really happy because I would do the same and he is ready for this game. So we’ll see in the end of this training.”

Amorim also took time to address the recent leaks that have plagued the Old Trafford club. Quizzed on how he intends to deal with the issue, United’s Portuguese boss responded without sounding particularly concerned;

“Nothing, and nowadays, all the coaches know about [United’s tactics] because I explain a lot of things about the team – the way we play, how I want to play, the positioning.

“But I say that because I understand that the coaches have that information, just from seeing, one time, Manchester United play. So I’m not really worried about that. And I also cannot control that. So I will do the same things.

“I prepare the same for games because for me, it’s more important for my players to go to the game with a clear idea of what and how to do it, than try to hide something to protect the leaking of the starting 11. That is not my focus. I’m not really worried about that.”
