Rangers could offload Cyril Dessers amid struggles for first-team football

Cyril Dessers’ future at Rangers appears uncertain as the Scottish Premiership club is reportedly open to offloading the Nigerian striker during the next transfer window.

Having joined Rangers last year, Dessers has faced increasing challenges in his second season at Ibrox. Despite his decent overall statistics of 22 goals and nine assists in 54 appearances for the Light Blues, the forward has struggled to win over the fans, who have often criticised his inconsistency on the pitch.

The rise of Hamza Igamane and the return of Danilo to full fitness have further relegated Dessers’ role within the squad. The Nigerian international has seen his playing time dwindle significantly, featuring for only 84 minutes across the team’s last six matches.

With Dessers under contract until June 2027, Rangers could be looking to recoup some of their investment by facilitating a sale. His reduced role and lack of impact this season may prompt the club to seek alternatives in the upcoming transfer window, especially as they aim to reinforce their attack for the second half of the campaign.

The decision will undoubtedly spark interest from clubs across Europe, but it remains to be seen whether Dessers can revive his form elsewhere if a move materialises.
