Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained their 44th spot in the latest FIFA men’s rankings released on Thursday.
Despite a challenging year that saw them drop eight places in November, the West African giants have maintained their position, offering some stability in their global standing.
On the continental stage, the Super Eagles remain Africa’s fifth-best team, trailing behind heavyweights Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco continues to lead the African rankings, buoyed by their historic World Cup semi-final run, while Senegal follows closely as one of the strong teams in Africa.
Although, the Super Eagles of Nigeria sits 5th in the continental ranking despite their impressive 2023 Africa Cup of Nations outing where they came second.
Globally, reigning world champions Argentina continue to dominate the rankings, holding the number one spot. France, the 2018 World Cup winners, occupy second place, while Spain, England, and Brazil complete the top five.
The consistency of Augustine Eguavoen-led team on the continental stage will be tested as they prepare for the upcoming other international fixtures in the year 2025.
With growing expectations from Nigerian football community, the 2013 AFCON champions will need to build momentum to climb higher in subsequent rankings.
