Barcelona are willing to let go of either Frenkie De Jong or Ronald Araujo in a swap deal that would potentially see embattled Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford sign for the Spanish giants, according to reports.
Rashford currently finds himself in a less than ideal position at Old Trafford, having been left out of two consecutive matchday squads by United manager Ruben Amorim. The winger’s recent interview comments regarding his future at the club have only served to aggravate already existing tensions surrounding him.
In a widely circulated social media interview, the 27-year-old announced that he was “ready for a new challenge” after being left out of United’s derby win. He also spoke about his exit from his boyhood club with a surprising air of certainty, stating “when i leave” and not “if i leave.”
Barcelona have now emerged as a potential destination for the England international, with a report claiming that the Blaugrana are desperate to secure his signing. The Spanish giants are reportedly ready to offer either De Jong or Araujo in a swap if the Red devils offer Rashford plus cash.
Reports suggest that United prefer to transfer the 27-year-old abroad rather than to a Premier League rival, following Amorim’s decision to exclude him from his plans. The English giants are expected to entertain offers as early as January, while Barcelona manager Hansi Flick seeks a winger similar to Yamal and Raphinha.
Barcelona have charged sporting director Deco with negotiating the transfer and the Catalans are prepared to create space on their wage bill to ensure they can accommodate Rashford’s current humongous paycheck.
