England international Conor Gallagher has expressed delight in working with Argentine coach Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, and believes he is perfectly suited to the system operated at the club.
The former Chelsea midfielder joined the former Laliga champions in the summer for a deal worth about £38 million, and has slotted in seamlessly to the Rojiblancos midfield.
“You can see the type of of players he likes and he needs in his kind of system, and I think it fitted me perfectly”, the England midfielder spoke highly of his coach.
“So that was one of the decisions why I felt it was a a perfect move for me. And, hopefully I can keep improving and [keep] helping him as much as possible.”
Atletico Madrid are joint-top of the Laliga with Barcelona, having lost just once in the league this season as they look to battle it out for the Laliga crown.
“I feel settled in the club. Everyone at the club has made me feel at home, and it’s been brilliant.
Of course it’s been difficult at times, the first few months to play as many games as possible and [I’m] still learning the the language and learning the new teammates and loads of stuff.”
The 24-year old has been an integral part of Atletico’s push for the title this season, scoring twice and providing another and he believes they have all it takes to take back a crown they last won in the 2020/21 season.
“I think looking at it now, [success] would be to win the league, of course,” Gallagher said. “I think that would be the target for every season with a a club like this”, he added.
“We’ve had a good start. We’re in a good position right now. And as the manager says, we take it game by game.”
Atletico Madrid’s next game is a crunch top-of-the-table tie against Barcelona at the Olympic stadium on Saturday and a win will lift them to the Summit of Laliga.
