Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has stated that he wants to keep Antony at the club and help him reach his previous form at Ajax.
Antony has been unimpressive for Manchester United since his €95 million from Ajax in 2022. The Brazilian shone in the Eredivisie, and he was expected to shine for the Red Devils in the Premier League. However, that has not happened.
Last season, the 24-year-old winger registered just three goals and two assists in 38 appearances. Most of his displays did not inspire much confidence. This season, his game time has also been limited, with Amorim giving him substitute appearances.
Due to his struggles, there have been talks that Antony could leave Manchester United in the coming months. However, coach Amorim has come out to back the young winger. He insists that Antony is a good player and he deserves an opportunity to prove himself.
“He lacks confidence, I will help him to find his best football like when he played with Ajax. He will have to work hard but I am confident,” Amorim said, per Transfer News Live.
Antony could see his minutes increase significantly in the coming weeks, especially with the rumours of a fallout between Amorim and Marcus Rashford.
If the Brazilian forward can prove his worth and start getting more goal involvements, he may become a trusted lieutenant for Amorim.
